    5/13/16

Please be advised that the fields are in very good condition right now, however, the rain is still coming.  So as of now all fields are open with the exception of large Firemen’s Field (this one is closed until further notice).

You will have to do your own field inspections prior to your games this evening to see if you feel the fields are still playable.  If there are any puddles on the field games may have to be cancelled.  If the puddles are insignificant,  practices may continue as long as they avoid the areas in question.  Please use good judgment when deciding whether or not to play this evening.

And please remember, any damage to the fields may affect the field’s playability for the rest of the season.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

    Dear Parents,

I would appreciate you sharing this correspondence with your child prior to the next meet/practice.

At the beginning of the season, I shared with the athletes my expectations as a coach; be respectful, keep your hands to yourself and no foul language.  I also sought your support as parents, to assure a great season for everyone.  I am sorry that I have to even have this "conversation" with some of you parents, but you are your child's first example of good sportsmanship, teamwork, cooperation and quite frankly, being a good person.  I do not understand why I have to justify, that an athlete was not hit "that hard" or that I did not personally hear foul language, but one of my assistants did.  Recent behaviors of some of the athletes and or their parents have caused volunteer coaches  to resign.  At a high school, interscholastic level, recently demonstrated behaviors of such would have an athlete cut from a team, a team to be penalized and or parents removed from an event and future events.

Please understand and be advised, with the support of Mrs. Rhinesmith, for the remainder of this season, if you or your child inappropriately touches another athlete, uses foul language or demonstrates behavior unbecoming of an athlete, I will ask you to take your child home.  I will not tolerate a parent yelling at me or abusing me verbally.  Your child will be placed in an event according to league guidelines and or my discretion and I will make this determination.  It is not a parents prerogative to chose what event(s) their child will be placed; that is the job of the Head Coach.   I expect every parent to cheer for every student and be supportive, whether or not the athlete is their child.  Again, you set the example for your child, that they carry with them throughout their life.

Your cooperation and understanding is greatly appreciated and needed.

    Directions:

    From Route 23 North:

Exit at Oak Ridge Road jug handle and follow Oak Ridge Road about 4 miles. Oak Ridge Road will become Berkshire Valley Road at the Passaic/Morris County line. The A&P Ridge Plaza shopping center will be to your left, and Lakeland Bank and a Mobil Gas Station will be on your right.

Proceed through the traffic light at the corner of Berkshire Valley and Ridge Roads.

Make a slight right onto Milton Road (just past Pond Hollow homes entrance and just before St. Thomas the Apostle Church). Then bear right at the last intersection (Legion Road to your left) as Milton Road veers off towards the right. You will pass the Fire Co #1 Firehouse on the right.

Turn right onto Dover-Milton Road (the Jefferson Township Museum is directly in front of you and the Milton Methodist Church is on the right corner). Follow to the big red barn (Bowling Green Golf Course) and turn left onto Weldon Road (Headley’s Lumber will be on your right).

Continue on Weldon Road, past the Jefferson Township Municipal Building, High School and Middle School and through the Mahlon Dickerson Reservation for about 5 miles. Camp Jefferson will be on the right.

    From Route 23 South:

Exit at Oak Ridge Road and proceed as above.

    From Route 80 West:

Take exit 34B to the Route 15 North exit. Travel North on Route 15 past the fourth traffic light. After this light, be sure that you are in the right lane and take the second ramp on the right exiting at Weldon Road (immediately after the Lake Shawnee exit ramp). This exit puts you directly onto Weldon Road; and the Camp is a short distance, on the left.

    From Route 80 East:

Take exit 34 and follow signs for Route 15 North. Proceed as above.

    MISSION STATEMENT

Today’s fast paced and often stressful society requires that we attempt to derive the greatest benefit from what leisure time is available to us and to assure that this leisure time is spent in a productive, meaningful, and enjoyable manner. Accepted as an essential element in a healthy and positive lifestyle, recreation, both active and passive, contributes significantly to the physical, social, and psychological development and well being of the individual, no matter what their age.

With this in mind, the overall goal of the Jefferson Recreation Department is to identify the recreational needs of the entire community and to develop and support a variety of quality programs and facilities that address these needs. Residents of Jefferson Township, with its’ motto “Year Round Recreation Capital of New Jersey”, deserve nothing less.
