Jefferson Rec to host The Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic on April 11, 2018

The Youth Sports Research Council in cooperation with the New Jersey Recreation and Park Association presents The Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic -- Sports Awareness for Educating Today's Youth hosted by the Jefferson Township Recreation Department on Wednesday, April 11 from 6:45 to 10 pm in the Jefferson Township Municipal Building, 1033 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong, NJ.   All Jefferson Township volunteer sports coaches as well as out-of-town volunteer sports coaches are invited to attend but must pre-register, and the registration deadline is Friday, April 11 at 4pm.

The State of New Jersey requires volunteer coaches to attend a “safety orientation and training skills program” in order to be eligible for civil immunity protection provided by the Little League Law (2A:62A-6 et. seq.)  The curriculum for this Clinic is based upon the Minimum Standards for Volunteer Coaches Safety Orientation and Training Skills Programs (N.J.A.C. 5:52) and has been tested in court as having met the standards. 

The topics for this class include Legal Aspects of Coaching, Psychological Aspects of Coaching, General Coaching Concepts, Training and Conditioning of Athletes, and Medical/First Aid Aspects of Coaching.   Volunteer coaches who attend this program receive The Coaches Reference Manual (4th edition), a certification card acknowledging attendance, and a permanent registration with the Rutgers YSRC.

Registration for this training class is online. Log on to http://www.communitypass.net and follow the prompts to either log in to your existing account or set up your own personal account and register and pay for this class being sponsored by the Jefferson Township Recreation Department.  You will automatically receive an email confirmation after you register and make your payment.  Note:  This class is FREE to all Jefferson Township coaches who register, and all out-of-town volunteer coaches will be charged a fee of $31.

 Going forward, you will be using your personal Community Pass account to register for all Jefferson Township Recreation Department activities including but not limited to adult exercise classes, Recreation Department-sponsored sports/clinics including but not limited to Jefferson Striders, Cross-Country, and Bowling,  the Rutgers  SAFETY training class, the Child Abuse Awareness class, Mt. Creek Ski Club busing, Rec Department bus trips, Teen Scene, Camp Jefferson Summer Day Camp, etc. so remember your log in and password.


Jefferson Rec to host Child Abuse Awareness Training on April 5, 2018

It is important to educate volunteer coaches about how to understand and coach their players.  This free Child Abuse Awareness seminar will give you the tools you need to protect your players on and off the field.   Hosted by the Jefferson Township Recreation Department, the class will be held on Thursday, April 5 in the Main Lodge at Camp Jefferson, 81 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong, NJ at 7 pm.  All Jefferson Township volunteer sports coaches are required to attend and out-of-town volunteer sports coaches are invited to attend but everyone must pre-register. 

Learn to understand what child abuse and neglect means to child survivors (of physical, sexual, neglect and emotional abuse); cultural, social, economic, political, and familial factors that contribute to the various types of child abuse and neglect that takes place within families; and how social and economic policy can contribute to prevention and to the promotion of child and family well-being.

  Develop an understanding of the range of intervention resources, including educational materials and local direct services, available to children, families, administrators,, and practitioners; and be positioned to contribute to child abuse and neglect prevention on the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.

Registration for this training class is online through Community Pass. New Karate classes begin in March 2018 at Camp Jefferson

The Jefferson Township Recreation Department’s Karate Program will begin its next 10-week session on Monday, March 19, 2018 and continue through Monday, June 4, 2018.  The program is open to school age children ages Kindergarten and up as well as adults.

This on-going program has been running for 12 years through the Recreation Department with instructors from the Jersey Judo Karate Academy of Kenvil teaching the Isshinryu style of Karate.  The skills learned help students develop coordination, balance, posture, and endurance. Students also gain self-confidence and discipline through progression in karate, while studying the authentic form of Asian Martial Arts. Jersey Judo Karate Academy is run by Sensei Rick Norris, a Kudan (9th degree black belt), and the Academy’s staff includes over 50 certified, fully trained black belts. 

Classes are held in the Community Lodge at Camp Jefferson on Weldon Road at 6:30 to 7:30 pm for grades K- 4th grade and 7:30 to 8:30 pm for grades 5 through adults.  Registration is now on-line through Community Pass.   The program fee is $55 per person with a discount of $10 per person for the second, third, etc. sibling enrolled.

The Jefferson Township Recreation Department is now exclusively using an online registration system through Community Pass. Log on to http://www.communitypass.net, the community/organization is Jefferson Township, and if you already have a Community Pass account, enter your log in and password, choose the activity under the season “Winter-Spring 2018”, register and pay the class fee.  If you forgot your log in or password, the system  allows you to recover your log in using your email address and reset your password or call the Recreation Department for a temporary password.

If you need to set up a Community Pass account, a parent  can easily follow the prompts to set up a personal account in his/her name as an adult; and then add the child to the account, register the child for Karate, and pay for this activity.  You will automatically receive an email confirmation after you register and make your payment.

FULL payment must be received NO LATER than 5 business dates after registration is completed. FULL payment can be made online at checkout with a MC, VISA, or Discover credit card subject to a 2.65% bank convenience fee.  Or you can choose to “Send Payment” at check out and drop off a check, cash, or money order to the Camp office at Camp Jefferson.  Or you can mail a check to the Camp office postmarked within 5 business days of registration, but do not mail cash.Or scan/email, fax, drop off at the office, or mail payment.

IF FULL PAYMENT IS NOT RECEIVED IN THE CAMP OFFICE WITHIN 5 BUSINESS DAYS OF REGISTRATION, YOUR REGISTRATION FACES CANCELLATION AND YOU/YOUR CHILD WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND KARATE CLASS.

Karate participants must be registered and the class fee paid in full BEFORE attending the first class on March 19.  A late registration fee will take effect as of March 26.

 


Children K-12 Invited to Bowl with Jeff Rec

The Jefferson Township Recreation Department is partnering with Sparta Lanes to provide another winter/spring bowling program for Jefferson Township students in Kindergarten (5 year olds) through 12th graders.  Join the team at Sparta Lanes at 83 Woodport Road in Sparta every Thursday beginning on Thursday, February 15 at 4:30 pm for this fun-filled 10-week program that runs through April 26 (no bowling on April 5 due to Spring break).  

Each week, bowlers will play two games,  staff will be available for questions, the Pro Shop will be open for any participant needing assistance with equipment, and each bowler will also be given a Jefferson bowling team t-shirt to wear each week.  

The cost per bowler will be $70 for the 10-week program; and there is an option to have a meal included at Sparta Lanes for an additional $27.50 ($2.75 per week) for a total of $97.50.  The meal would include a small drink with a hot dog or chicken nuggets each Thursday during each of the 10 weeks of the program. 

Students can chose if they want to use the bowling bumpers, and everyone can choose two people who they would like to bowl with each week.  Bowling partners must each file their own registration and all must agree on using bumpers or not.

As with any online shopping site, everything in your cart is payable immediatelyFull payment of all items in your shopping cart can be made online at checkout with a MC, VISA, or Discover credit card subject to a 2.65% bank convenience fee.  However, you can choose to “Send Payment” at checkout and then drop off a check, cash, or money order to the JT Recreation Dept. office at Camp Jefferson, 81 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong,NJ 07849 within 3 business days.  Or you can mail a check to the office postmarked the day of your registration or the next business day so the office receives your payment within 3 business days of registration -- do not mail cash. If full payment is not received in the office within 3 business days of registration, your registration can be cancelled.

Jefferson Rec offers Adult Volleyball
 

          Jefferson Township Recreation is pleased to announce its open recreational volleyball program is now co-ed!   The program is for adults 18 years of age and over and held on Monday evenings from 8 to 10 pm during the school year at the Jefferson Township High School gym, 1010 Weldon Road, Milton/Oak Ridge.  One net will continue to be devoted to women’s recreational level of play and the other will now be devoted to co-ed volleyball.  The program is free and no registration is required, just pick-up games.
           The program will run on Mondays only when there is a full day of school.  For most of the year, play is in the high school’s Freedom Gym.  However, during basketball season, the volleyball program will often be moved to the school’s old gym if there is scheduled basketball game.
