ONLINE REGISTRATION FOR ALL WINTER 2017 ADULT EXERCISE CLASSES HAS BEGUN!

 
Cardio Kickboxing is Jefferson Rec’s new exercise class!
 
       The Jefferson Township Recreation Department is excited to add Cardio Kickboxing, a new adult exercise class, to its already established Yoga, CORE, and Zumba class schedules. This winter session class will begin on Wednesday, January 18 starting at 7:30 until 8:15 pm and run for 10 weeks in The Community Lodge at Camp Jefferson, 81 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong. 
       This high-energy class features cardio kickboxing combos and body-sculpting dance moves choreographed to the hottest music mixes. It really is the ultimate cardio kickboxing party!  It’s also a great way to create a strong community of support, camaraderie, and fitness breakthroughs.
       This class will be taught by Sarah (LoConte) Langan, a 31 health, fitness and nutrition coach who is currently getting her certified personal trainer certificate. She is recently married, a fur mom, a full-time special education teacher in Paterson, and loves to craft and assist brides on their wedding day.  Born and raised in Jefferson, she is excited to give back to her community with sharing her love for fitness and wellness. 
       The winter session fee will be $35 per person with the session ending on Wednesday, March 22 with a make-up date of March 29 if needed. The minimum class size is 12 with a maximum class size of 30.  Participants should bring a bottle of water and a towel to each class.
        Registration for this activity is online -- Jefferson Township Recreation is exclusively using an online registration system through Community Pass. If you or someone in your family already participated in any Fall 2016 or is currently enrolled in any Winter 2017 Recreation Department activity or program, you already have a Community Pass account. Do not create a new account but log on to http://www.communitypass.net using the community/organization Jefferson Township, and just enter your log in and password. Then choose the Cardio Kickboxing activity under the season “Winter/Spring 2017”, register and pay the class fee.  If you forgot your log in or password, the system will allow you to recover your log in using your email address and reset your password. The Recreation Department can email you a temporary password.
       If you’re new to the system, you will need to set up a Community Pass account.  Follow the prompts to set up a personal account in your name, register for the class you want, and pay for the activity.  You will automatically receive an email confirmation after you register and make your payment.

       Jefferson Recreation is no longer accepting paper registration forms so you will be using your personal Community Pass account to register yourself and family members for all activities including but not limited to exercise classes, Karate, Jefferson Striders, Mt. Creek Ski Club busing, golf lessons, bowling, Cross Country, bus trips, as well as Teen Scene and Camp Jefferson Summer Day Camp in 2017, so remember your log in and password.
       We realize that some individuals may not own a computer or have Internet access.  If that is the case, please call the Recreation Department office at 973-663-8404 x4 or x5 for assistance.


Jefferson Recreation Winter Exercise Registration begins - Yoga, Zumba, CORE !
 
The Jefferson Township Recreation Department is pleased to continue its adult Exercise Programs for the Winter 2017 season and all registrations must be done online through http://www.communitypass.net  If you’ve participated in any department activities over the past three months, you already have an account in the system and just need to log in.  Otherwise, you can easily create a new account by following the prompts.  If you do not own a computer or have email, call the office at 973-663-8404 x4 for assistance.

  • Chair Yoga program -- Students will be instructed by certified instructor Linda Mangan in this very gentle class on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7 pm in the Camp Jefferson Community Lodge, 81 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong in 10 sessions beginning January 11 and ending on March 15 for $35 per person.  Learn modified yoga postures incorporating the same principles as a full yoga class but seated in a chair focusing on breathing techniques and stress management tools such as meditation and deep relaxation.    There is a class make-up date of March 22 if needed.
  • Beginner Yoga Class -- Students will be instructed in one of the oldest styles of yoga -- the Hatha style by certified instructor Linda Mangan.  This adult basic class teaches yoga postures, principles of safe alignment, and breathing technique is open to new beginners, those with limited yoga experience, or anyone just wanting to take it slow and steady.  While doing these gentle poses, you’ll naturally increase flexibility, release tension, and build mental clarity.  There will be 10 sessions on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30 pm beginning January 11 and ending on March 15 (a class make-up date is March 22 if needed).  All classes will be held in the Jefferson Township Middle School Cafeteria, 1000 Weldon Road, Oak Ridge for $35 per person. 
  • Intermediate Yoga Class -- A comprehensive, balanced class with a steady and relaxed flow is also Hatha style based and taught by certified instructor Linda Mangan  Explore traditional yoga postures with basic to challenging options, and emphasis on safe alignment, breath, meditation, and guided relaxation techniques.  This class will run for 10 sessions on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30 pm beginning January 19 and ending on March 23 (a class make-up date is March 30 if needed) in the Jefferson Township Middle School Cafeteria, 1000 Weldon Road, Oak Ridge at $35 per person.  
  • CORE Exercise Class – This high energy, low-impact adult strength training exercise program runs for a 10-week session beginning on Tuesday, January 17 from 7 to 7:45 pm continuing on consecutive Tuesdays with the last class on March 21 (there is a make-up class on March 28 if needed).  Classes are in the Jefferson Township Middle School Cafeteria, 1000 Weldon Road, Oak Ridge, and the class fee is $35.  Taught by Certified Personal Trainer, Pilates Instructor, Yoga Teacher, Indoor Cycling, Golden Hearts Instructor Jill Carlson, this strength class will help you gain an understanding of flexibility, balance, coordination and not only isolated exercise but a concentration on functional exercise, which not only builds strength but makes it easier to carry out your everyday daily activities.  Participants should bring a bottle of water, a challenging set of hand weights, and a mat or large towel for the floor exercises. 
  • < > -- This beginner/intermediate class will be held from 6 to 6:45 pm in the Jefferson Township Middle School cafeteria, 1000 Weldon Road, Milton/Oak Ridge, NJ in 10 sessions beginning on Thursday, January 19 and ending on March 23 for $35 per person.  Taught by Certified Zumba® Fitness Instructor Yesenia Centeno, Zumba® takes the "work" out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. The Latin and World rhythms take over – it’s exercise in disguise!  Zumba® is a total workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you attend a class.

There is a minimum of 15 persons per class with a maximum of 30; and all students should wear comfortable clothing and bring a bottle of water to each session.   


New Karate classes begin in December at Camp Jefferson

The Jefferson Township Recreation Department’s Karate Program will begin its next 10-week session on Monday, December 5, 2016 and continue through Monday, February 20, 2017.  There will be no class on December 26th or January 2nd. The program is open to school age children ages Kindergarten and up as well as adults.

This on-going program has been running for 11 years through the Recreation Department with instructors from the Jersey Judo Karate Academy of Kenvil teaching the Isshinryu style of Karate.  The skills learned help students develop coordination, balance, posture, and endurance. Students also gain self-confidence and discipline through progression in karate, while studying the authentic form of Asian Martial Arts. Jersey Judo Karate Academy is run by Sensei Rick Norris, a Kudan (9th degree black belt), and the Academy’s staff includes over 50 certified, fully trained black belts. 
Classes are held in the Community Lodge at Camp Jefferson on Weldon Road at 6:30 to 7:30 pm for grades K- 4th grade and 7:30 to 8:30 pm for grades 5 through adults.  Registration is through the Jefferson Township Recreation Department or by mail; and the office is located at Camp Jefferson, 81 Weldon Road and is open Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 4:30 PM and on Friday from 8 am to 3:30 pm.  The program fee is $55 per person with a discount of $5 per person for the second, third, etc. sibling enrolled.

Registration for this activity is online -- The Jefferson Township Recreation Department is now exclusively using an online registration system through Community Pass. Log on to http://www.communitypass.net, the community/organization is Jefferson Township, and if you already have a Community Pass account, enter your log in and password, choose the activity under the season “Fall-Winter 2016” (even though this session runs until February 2017) and register your child and pay the class fee.  If you forgot your log in or password, the system will allow you to recover your log in using your email address and reset your password or call the Recreation Department for a temporary password.
If you need to set up a Community Pass account, a parent  can easily follow the prompts to set up a personal account in his/her name as an adult; and then add the child to the account, register the child for Karate, and pay for this activity.  You will automatically receive an email confirmation after you register and make your payment.

Jefferson Rec to host The Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic on October 19

The Youth Sports Research Council in cooperation with the New Jersey Recreation and Park Association presents The Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic -- Sports Awareness for Educating Today's Youth hosted by the Jefferson Township Recreation Department on Wednesday, October 19 from 6:45 to 10 pm in the Jefferson Township Senior Center, 54 Schoolhouse Road, Milton/Oak Ridge, NJ.   All Jefferson Township volunteer sports coaches as well as out-of-town volunteer sports coaches are invited to attend but must pre-register, and the registration deadline is Monday, October 17.

The State of New Jersey requires volunteer coaches to attend a “safety orientation and training skills program” in order to be eligible for civil immunity protection provided by the Little League Law (2A:62A-6 et. seq.)  The curriculum for this Clinic is based upon the Minimum Standards for Volunteer Coaches Safety Orientation and Training Skills Programs (N.J.A.C. 5:52) and has been tested in court as having met the standards. 

The topics for this class include Legal Aspects of Coaching, Psychological Aspects of Coaching, General Coaching Concepts, Training and Conditioning of Athletes, and Medical/First Aid Aspects of Coaching.   Volunteer coaches who attend this program receive The Coaches Reference Manual (4th edition), a certification card acknowledging attendance, and a permanent registration with the Rutgers YSRC.

Jefferson Rec to host Child Abuse Awareness Training on October 12

It is important to educate volunteer coaches about how to understand and coach their players.  This free Child Abuse Awareness seminar will give you the tools you need to protect your players on and off the field.   Hosted by the Jefferson Township Recreation Department, the class will be held on Wednesday, October 12 in the Main Lodge at Camp Jefferson, 81 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong, NJ from 7:30 to 8:30 pm.  All Jefferson Township volunteer sports coaches are required to attend and out-of-town volunteer sports coaches are invited to attend but everyone must pre-register.  The registration deadline is Monday, October 10.

Learn to understand what child abuse and neglect means to child survivors (of physical, sexual, neglect and emotional abuse); cultural, social, economic, political, and familial factors that contribute to the various types of child abuse and neglect that takes place within families; and how social and economic policy can contribute to prevention and to the promotion of child and family well-being.

 Develop an understanding of the range of intervention resources, including educational materials and local direct services, available to children, families, administrators,, and practitioners; and be positioned to contribute to child abuse and neglect prevention on the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.
