HOLIDAYS AT CAMP JEFFERSON -- Held on a Saturday in early December, the rustic Community Lodge at Camp Jefferson is transformed into a winter wonderland. Come visit with Rudolph, Frosty, and most importantly, Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the elves. Music, refreshments, story time, and coloring are the norm for the day. Bring your cameras for great pictures
Santa Claus is coming to town… Jefferson Township that is!
It will soon be that time of year again when children everywhere anxiously await the arrival of Santa Claus, and the Jefferson Township Recreation Department will help fulfill those dreams even before December 25th arrives!
So gather up those eager children and join Santa, Mrs. Claus, and Rudolph on Saturday, December 1 at the Community Lodge at Camp Jefferson located at 81 Weldon Road. Santa will visit with the children from 10am to 3pm (note that Santa & Mrs. Claus will take a lunch break from 12:30 to 1pm) and hand out candy canes and good wishes.
In addition to visiting with Santa, an Ice Sculpture Artist will be on site from 11 am to 1 pm creating a unique work of art in ice. There will be holiday music, children’s’ coloring pages, opportunities to write letters to Santa at the North Pole, and Santa will have small gifts for the children. Everyone is invited to come and join in the excitement and encouraged to bring their cameras, smart phones, and/or other electronic devices to catch those memorable shots of a child on Santa’s lap.
A beverage and food area will be hosted by the Jefferson Township Middle School Student Council and the Red Cross Club members with items available for a nominal fee. The students will also conduct a Bake Sale to benefit Toys for Tweens.
Also stop by the North Pole Cinema at the Camp Jefferson Theater hosted by Jefferson Highlights’ Art Bonito for some holiday movies, and the Train Station at Camp Jefferson will be open to view the beautiful train displays constructed by the BD&W Railroad Club.
Everyone is asked to make a donation to the Jefferson Township Food Pantries, and suggestions include non-perishable food items, paper products, household cleaning products, and/or toiletries to restock the township’s three food pantries.

Township Christmas Tree to be lit and Santa arrives
The holiday season is quickly approaching, and the Jefferson Township Recreation Department is busy preparing the way for festivities to usher in the holiday season. The annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony will take place on Friday night, November 30, 2018 beginning at 7 PM at the Jefferson Township Gazebo, which is located in the Municipal Complex at 1033 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong, NJ.
DJ Matt will be playing some holiday music until the Jefferson Township Middle School Chorus under the direction of Danielle Schreck performs “Sweet Singing in the Choir” and leads a holiday sing-a-long. Soon after, the switch will be thrown to light up the township Christmas tree in the gazebo and all the trees in the municipal complex!
Following that, the children will be gathered around Jefferson Township Council President Debi Merz to listen to a reading of the holiday classic “The Night Before Christmas” as they eagerly await the arrival of Santa Claus.
When the time is right, Santa will enter the complex on his sleigh via a decorated Jefferson Township Fire Company No. 1 fire truck! The man in the red suit will visit with the children and hand out candy canes, and his sidekick Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is expected to be joining him. Complimentary coffee and hot chocolate provided by Casa Bianca Banquets and Catering along with desserts provided by the Jefferson Township Recreation Department will be available in the Municipal Building’s Lobby following the event.
Attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable food item, paper product, household cleaning product, and/or toiletry item to donate to the township’s three food pantries to help the needy in the community.
This Tree Lighting and Santa’s arrival in Jefferson Township events will also usher in the Jefferson Township Recreation Department’s Visit with Santa at Camp Jefferson on Saturday, December 1 from 10 am to 3 pm.

Jefferson Rec Presents Holiday Train Open House
You’re invited to an open house of holiday trains as the Jefferson Township Recreation Department welcomes the BD&W Club of Jefferson, the High Point “N” Track Club, and the Pocono Mountain Garden Railway Society to Camp Jefferson, 81 Weldon Road in Lake Hopatcong on Saturday, December 8 from 9 am to 5 pm and on Sunday, December 9 from 9 am to 4 pm. Come to see model railroading displays in action!
The BD&W Club will be running their HO scale trains in their Train Cabin, the High Point “N” Track Club will be located in the Recreation Hall running their “N” scale modular trains, and The Pocono Mountain Garden Railway Society will be running their G-scale trains in the Community Lodge. On display will be large and small trains, smoking locomotives with lots of sounds -- old and new generations.
Bring the whole family, invite friends and children of all ages for pre-holiday fun. As this event will be held indoors in three buildings at Camp Jefferson, the event is rain or shine. EASTER EGG HUNT -- Open to families with young children age 9 and under, this event occurs the second Saturday before Easter at either the Jefferson Township Middle School or the Jefferson Township High School (be sure to check the current flyer/press release for location). There are traditionally three separate groups consisting of age two and under, age three to five year olds, and six to eight year olds. Children get to visit with the Easter Bunny and parents are encouraged to bring their cameras.
FALL FESTIVAL & HAUNTED HOUSE -- Usually scheduled the second Saturday before Halloween, this event takes place at Camp Jefferson with refreshments, hayrides, pumpkin painting, and other fun events.
Celebrate Fall on October 20 at Camp Jefferson’s Fall Festival!
The Jefferson Township Recreation Department will host its annual Fall Festival at Camp Jefferson, 81 Weldon Road on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 10 am to 3 pm. This event and all activities are free to the public except where noted.
Confirmed entertainment will include music by DJ Earl Heller of Sound Solutions, Wallaby Tales’ Eyes of the Wild live animal show at 10:30 am and at 12 noon, Freedom Fields Farms’ Pony Rides and Petting Zoo from 10 am to 2 pm, and the Pumpkin Bouncer and Inflatable Maze activities Inflatable from 9 am to 3 pm. There will also be daytime hayrides, a fall coloring activity, pumpkin decorating, pumpkin picking in the Pumpkin Patch, and a trip through the Camp Jefferson Corn Maze. The BD&W Model Train Club display will be open to the public, and there will be a Guess the Weight of the Pumpkin Contest and a Candy Corn Contest. Representatives from several Jefferson recreation sports leagues, the NJ Forest Fire Service, The Feisty Pepper, and the Jefferson Educational Foundation will be present with information. Tentatively scheduled is the Jefferson Rescue Squad, the Milton First Aid Squad, the Jefferson Township Police Department Community Services, and Smokey Bear. There will be a special appearance by Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer!
Refreshments will be available for purchase throughout the day with proceeds to benefit “Operation Camp Jefferson”, a scholarship fund set up for needy families so their children can have a summer day camp experience next year. Members of the Jefferson Township Middle School Student Council and Red Cross Club will be volunteering at the refreshment table, and the Student Council members will be selling Gertrude Hawk chocolate bars to benefit their community programs including food drives and toy drives.
There will be a night-time haunted hayride (nominal fee) throughout the spooky Camp Jefferson grounds during the Haunted House activities with proceeds benefiting the Jefferson Teen Scene program

Continuous shuttle service for overflow parking will be provided by the Township’s Recreation Department’s Camp Jefferson bus and the Dial-A-Ride vans to and from off-site locations at the Board of Education’s Central Offices Building at 31 Route 181 and at Ellen T. Briggs Elementary School, 1 Jefferson Drive (off Espanong Road), both in Lake Hopatcong.

Jefferson’s spooktacular Halloween Haunted House returns
to Camp Jefferson!
Following the Jefferson Township Recreation Department’s annual Fall Festival event on Saturday, October 20, Jefferson Recreation proudly presents the 30th annual Halloween Haunted House at Camp Jefferson, 81 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong rain or shine – with performances again on Sunday, October 21. This anniversary show is “The Night of the Scarecrow” and promises to be spooktacular!
Ghostly spirits will inhabit the completely transformed Community Lodge where eerie scenarios will unfold in dark and scary rooms causing you to laugh and scream your way through a diverse gathering of ghosts, ghouls, serial killers, random creatures, and things that go bump in the night! Spirits will be roaming the outside grounds as well, and DJ Earl of Sound Solutions Entertainment will be playing some bloodcurdling music for the monster mash to get the ghouls dancing. If you dare, take a haunted hay ride (a nominal fee) through the dark and mysterious woods and hold on so you don’t jump out of your skin along the road!
There will be a matinee performance (a less frightening children’s hour suggested for 5th graders and younger) from 3 to 4:30 pm on Saturday, October 20 with regular scary evening peformances from 7 to 9:30 pm. On Sunday, October 21, another less frightening children’s hour matinee will run from 3 to 4 pm with regular scary evening performances from 6 to 8 pm. MaMa’s Road Kill Café will be offering eats and refreshments at a nominal price.
Admission to the Haunted House is $3 for adults and children for the “scary” and matinee performances. Attendees are asked to contribute non-perishable food items, paper products, toiletries, and/or cleaning products to donate to the township food pantries.
