Jefferson Rec expands its 2010 spring track program
The Jefferson Township Recreation Department is pleased to announce that the Jefferson Striders recreational spring track program will return in March for a third season and will expand once again to include 6th, 7th, and 8th graders during its 2010 season. In addition, the program this year will be part of the Lakeland Junior Track and Field League established in 1973 and compete against the Denville, Rockaway, Mountain Lakes, Roxbury, and Hopatcong recreation leagues.
First through 8th grade boys and girls are invited to register for this program, which will provide a great opportunity for youngsters, giving them the experience needed if they want to pursue track opportunities in the future on school teams. Weather permitting, the program will start on March 23, 2010 at the Jefferson Township High School Track, 1010 Weldon Road in the Milton/Oak Ridge section of the township.
The participation fee will remain at $55 per student, and Richard Grayson of Jefferson Township will return as the team’s head coach. Practices are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 PM at the Jefferson Township High School track. The meets for the Instructional League for first and second graders will take place on Thursday and Friday evenings and include 50 meters, 200 meters, 800 meters, relay, and long jump and last approximately 60 minutes. The meets for the third through eighth graders will be held on Sundays and include 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, mile, shot put, long jump, and 4x100 relays and last approximately 90 minutes.
If you have any specific questions or would like to volunteer to assist with team activities (must be 18 years of age or older), you can contact Rich or Danielle Grayson at 973-663-4234, email rgrayson@cisco.com or call the Jefferson Township Recreation Department at 973-663-8404.
