Homeowner Construction Debris Disposal

This program is available to Jefferson Township resident homeowners only (proof of residency is required prior to unloading). Disposal is allowed Saturdays, by appointment only, between 9 am and 1:30 pm. To schedule an appointment, Please call 973-697-1500 from 9 am to 3:30 pm on Monday through Thursday.

Making an Appointment

Be advised there is a limit of 30 appointments per week on a first call basis. During peak months the list is subject to be closed prior to Thursday. Maximum of one-bed level pickup truck load per appointment per week.

Items Not Allowed

Sofas and Mattresses are not considered construction debris and are not accepted in the construction dumpsters. These items are to be disposed of on the second trash day. No contractors or commercial businesses permitted.

Vegetative Waste

Vegetative Waste Pickup will begin on April 1, 2020 and continue until December 9, 2020.  There will be no vegetative waste picked up during the weeks of Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day.  Unlimited vegetative waste pickup begins April 1, 2020 and continues until May 13, 2020. After May 13, you may put two (2) bags out.

Unlimited fall leaf pick up will begin on Wednesday, October 14, and continue until November 25. After November 25, vegetative waste pick up will go back to two bags and continue until December 9 (weather permitting). After December 9, 2020 vegetative waste will end and will resume again on April 7, 2021.

Items Not Accepted at Recycling Center

Grass clippings and leaves are not accepted at the Recycling Center. These items should be recycled to your compost pile or placed curbside in brown paper sacks for weekly collection on Wednesdays. Tree stumps and trunk wood are also not accepted.

Items Accepted at Recycling Center

Tree branches, twigs and shrubs may be brought to the Recycling Center. Branches are not to exceed 3 inches in diameter or 4 feet in length. These items are also collected curbside on Wednesdays. Two bundles, cans or bags are allowed for collection on Wednesday.
Big, oversized landscaper barrels will not be emptied (bundles are not to exceed 4 feet in length or 40 pounds in weight).

Hazardous Waste

Motor oil, antifreeze, propane tanks and other hazardous waste etc. must be taken to the Morris County M.U.A. by appointment only. Call 973-829-8006 to make an appointment. See attached flyer (PDF).

Bulk Waste

Furniture, mattresses and other bulk waste are collected curbside on the 2nd garbage pick-up day of the week. Residents are permitted to put out two 32-gallon trash cans twice a week, or one bulk item with one garbage can will be collected on the second pick up day of the week.

Appliances and Metal Items

Call 973-697-1500 to arrange for a curbside pick-up. Air Conditioners, Refrigerators and Dehumidifiers contain Freon/CFCs. The Freon must be removed by a certified professional prior to arrange for pick up. The receptionist can give you the name and phone number of such a person.

New Jersey Clean Energy

New Jersey Clean Energy does offer rebates for refrigerators (and other appliances) in working condition. Call 877-341-2192 to schedule an appointment.


Accepted at Recycling Yard with a check payable to Jefferson Township. $4 per Passenger Tire (no rim) up to 19 inches. Tires with rim and larger than 19 inches are $7. These are accepted at the Parsippany Transfer Station by calling 973-808-9651.



TV’s, computers, laptops, computer monitors will not be picked up by the garbage company. They can be disposed of at the Recycling Center along with desktop fax machines and desktop printers free of charge. All other electronics such as: radios, speakers, VCR’s, cables, wires, keyboards, etc. can be thrown out in the trash.

Latex Paint Disposal

Take off lid from paint can. If can is half full or less add clay-based kitty litter or speedy dry to can. If can is more than half full, empty excess into another container, stir mixture, allow to dry until no longer pour-able, and then put dried out cans next to trash on trash day.
