Notice- Voluntary Water Restrictions

Voluntary Water Use Restrictions

NOTICE- Voluntary Water Restrictions

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL UTILITIES

Due to the lack of precipitation, the Township of Jefferson is becoming increasingly concerned with supplying our residents with an uninterrupted supply of water.  We are asking all residents at this time to please voluntarily conserve water as much as possible, until adequate precipitation can replenish the ground water levels for each of our water supplies.  Some of the ways in which residents can assist in conserving water are as follows:

  1. Lawn watering at even numbered street addresses on even numbered calendar days only.  Sprinklers should not be left unattended, and watering of 20 minutes per area are suggested.
  2. Lawn watering at odd numbered street addresses on odd numbered calendar days only.  Sprinklers should not be left unattended, and watering of 20 minutes per area are suggested.
  3. Hand watering of flowers and shrub areas is highly recommended.
  4. Refrain from filling of swimming pools using Township water.  Residents may top off swimming pools as needed.
  5. All residences should be checked for possible internal leaks on a regular basis.  Some places where leaks occur without being visible are broken spigots or leaking faucet fixtures, toilet flappers not seating properly, water softeners with too high of a backwash rate, etc.
  6. Refrain from washing vehicles or power-washing homes using the public water supplies.
  7. Minimizing water use when taking showers, and regulating water use when washing dishes.
  8. Repairing any leaks, no matter how small, as soon as possible.  Possible leaks can be monitored by taking a meter reading in the evening, and another in the morning when no water is being used, and comparing the two.
  9. Report any suspected main breaks or leaks in remote areas to the Utility Department immediately.

The Township appreciates all conservation efforts, and thanks you in advance for your anticipated cooperation.
